Key Event in Life:
The key moments in Edmund’s life were meeting Dominic, and fighting against Jadis.
He met Dominic when he was five, a new boy in his class, and there was something different about the boy that drew Edmund to him like a moth to a flame. Dominic was always in trouble, and previously Ed had been a fairly quiet child, but his new friendship with the boy started making him more confident, happier to “play with” (see: bully) the other children and generally make a nuisance of himself. He resisted his family’s attempts to counter the bad influence and ignored his parents when they told him he wasn’t allowed to play with Dominic anymore. After his father left them for the war, he spent more and more time with Dom, whose father had also gone to fight, and they were quite happy blaming their families for not stopping their dads. Dominic was sent up to Scotland in the first group of evacuees from their area.
During the Great Battle, Edmund had to come face to face with the Witch who had tempted him with sweets (albeit magical sweets) for his family. He felt incredibly guilty about this and looked on the battle as a way to redeem himself, perhaps. The fact that he didn’t really seem to do any damage to the Witch (apart from break her wand, but at that point it hadn’t seemed all that good a thing), and had ended up stabbed by her wand affected him for a little while afterwards (more because his family had been so upset and that shocked him, than dying), and he was a bit scared of picking up a weapon. He’s starting to come back out of it now, because he’s realising that she was simply a better fighter and he can develop his skills to match if he so wants to.
Five Words To Describe You:
Personality:
Edmund is the sarcastic one of the family, the thinker, and is quite happy to run his own commentary on events, or to criticise his siblings when he thinks they’ve done something wrong. This isn’t to say he’s a motor mouth – he knows when to keep quiet, and is a good listener as well, taking on board everything said and using it in his choices.
He internalises a lot, thinking about the things he does and the things he says, and is prone to guilt trips and bouts of depression. He is fully aware of himself in every aspect of life and tries to keep things that way. He prefers the thinking side of war to actual battles, and is slightly afraid of fighting because he’s still a little shocked his siblings were so sad about him being stabbed.
Edmund has changed a lot since entering Narnia, although people don’t change their ways quite that quickly and he can still be a bit of a brat when things don’t go his way. He likes to be in control, a state he’s rarely in (much to his annoyance) and it’s for this reason that he’s an excellent strategist.
He likes to believe the best in everyone, but he’s fully aware that people can seem nice and sweet but be foul underneath it all, and so he’s a very good judge of character and is prepared to scrutinise anyone who comes before him. He’s more likely to see the bad in people than his siblings, although he’s also very forgiving and believes deeply in second chances.
He insists on being part of every event, never wanting to be left out again, but also likes his space and gets edgy when his sisters try to go into his room. He also secretly loves Susan fussing over him, but he’ll never admit it. Despite his changes, he isn’t a touchy-feely person and so he intensely dislikes hugs.
History
History:
Edmund was born on September 5th 1928, and scared the doctors a little bit by being rather quiet – until he was smacked, at which point he was screaming and wailing like no one’s business. Declared perfectly healthy, they left the hospital and returned to their overly cosy home.
He was the baby for many years, but he wasn’t spoilt because of it. The Pevensies didn’t believe in that. He was, however, fairly prone to illness as a young child and was in and out of the doctors, much to his parents dismay. The most common complaints were colds and the flu, which worried them a lot. He also had the chicken pox, when he was 3, and gave it to both his siblings, so they spent that week playing fortresses.
When Lucy was born, Edmund became a much louder child and he was pleased he wasn’t the youngest anymore. He was a little upset for a while that he’d lost all the attention that he had, but he got over it quickly and shoved his nose into books and puzzles, getting Peter to go over books he wasn’t old enough to read alone so he could make his brother read the words he couldn’t (which meant Peter pretty much read the books to him). He was also very protective of his little sister until he started education, and was happy to do anything for her – including letting her put ribbons in his hair which resulted in half of his locks being pulled out.
When he entered school, Edmund met another young boy called Dominic, and despite them being very different (Edmund much quieter, Dominic preferring to go out and play football), they got along really well and it quickly resulted in Edmund coming out of his shell. His parents were happy for a few years, seeing him go off after school to play football and other games, but when they started getting notes from teachers, hidden in school trousers, and Edmund started coming home, dragged by his older siblings, with bruises and scrapes, they started getting concerned. Clearly Dominic was a bad influence on him, and they told him to stop playing with the boy, but it didn’t stop him and Edmund returned to his mischief with a new distaste for his family.
Things stayed pretty much the same after this – Edmund stayed out as long as possible and hid in his room otherwise, snarling at his siblings and picking on Lucy whenever possible, and he continued to drift away from his family, ignoring the fact he felt empty when he tried to bully them. When the bombs started falling, Dominic was sent away and Edmund was left in a world devoid of fun, filled with lots of fascinating things for young boys to play with but no one to share them with as he’d never bothered to make any other friends.
In 1940, their mother sent the children off to the countryside to stay with the kindly Professor Kirke, and Edmund hated it. He wanted to be in the war zone, waiting for his dad to come home (whom he missed terribly, even if he didn’t get on with his as well as he used to) and looking for bomb scraps, among other souvenirs. He ended up teasing Lucy and following her into the magical land of Narnia, where he met the White Witch, Jadis, and fell under her spell. For the promise of sweets, he would bring her his siblings and unknowingly stop an age old prophecy. Of course, he couldn’t convince his siblings to go with him and ended up seeing the error of his ways, after which he was rescued and returned to his siblings, and Aslan’s, care.
He has yet to find out the arrangement between Aslan and Jadis, and he isn’t sure he wants to know what saved his life at that point, but he nearly ended up dying anyway as he helped defeat Jadis at the Battle of Beruna. After this, he was crowned King of Narnia (under High King Peter and Aslan), and has spent the last year frantically learning the ways of a monarch and how best to rule the country, while trying to make sure he has the trust of the citizens of Narnia.

Allan shrugged and grinned in reply. "My evil plan is working?" he asked, more than announced, amused that he seemed to be scaring Kate a little (if her declaration was indeed sincere). So he was a little bit unusual, he'd never been called normal before - and this girl just seemed to bring out the weird in him, really. He blamed her. Totally and utterly.
"Not washing can be good for you!" Allan mock-grumbled, crossing his arms in protest. It was a fact - he had gotten a lot less sick than his brother when they were younger, and Allan had always believed it was because he got more dirty than his brother. That was the only thing that had made sense, anyway - Tom had always been getting ill when they were younger, whereas once they'd grown, it was Allan who got into trouble... Well, more serious trouble anyway, but the difference was he always got back out of it.
”Coming back and helping isn’t something to be ashamed of, you know!”
"I know there ain't!" he almost hissed, unable to keep a bit of annoyance out of his voice. It wasn't Kate's fault, but he didn't like to think about it - he'd betrayed the gang, then he'd left Guy in the lurch. Some friend he was turning out to be - he had screwed up royally both times. It was a wonder anyone liked him at all, especially Kate if she knew so much about his exploits. He shrugged moodily and looked back towards the forest - maybe it was time for him to leave. He wasn't enjoying himself as much as he'd thought he would. He mumbled his next words without really realising it. "It's the part where I had to come back that I'm ashamed of."
Allan cheered up a little bit as Kate shrieked. She was so easy! Had she really not been expecting that? He pouted a little as Kate hit him. "Like I'd let you come to harm wit' me around. Big soft heather cushion, me, great for landing on." To prove his point, he poked himself in the leg. Okay, not so squishy, but his brain was starting to feel a little addled. He laid his head on Kate's shoulder.
"Are you completely insane?"
"I've been told that a few times, but it's Robin who's completely insane. Rest of us? Just a little bit loopy, is all," he replied, yawning. What was her problem? The sun was out, making everything nice and warm, it was cosy, and...
And was she poking him in the arm? He lifted his head back up and scowled at her, taking the offending hand and moving it slowly back down to rest on her lap. He did, however, get the message, and shifted himself down the wall of the well a bit so he could lean against it comfortably. "Spoilsport."
